Google’s Acquisition of Motorola Mobility, Innovation Economy Viewpoint

Google’s Acquisition of Motorola Mobility, Innovation Economy Viewpoint: Our most recent Innovation Economy Viewpoint is on the topic of Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility in the fall of 2011.  At a price of $12.5B this is Google’s largest acquisition to date and it happens to be in context of a high stakes battle for IP in the mobile sector.  This case brings up a number of new points related to Google’s strategy, IP as an emerging asset class and the very role of IP in innovation.
As always, we appreciate your comments as input to a Google-Motorola Mobility teaching case for use in our Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship programs.  Comments and responses to open questions may be sent to ie@lists.berkeley.edu.
